Sad Songs Blogfest

What with the A-Z challenge coming up and three other blog fests going on, it is no wonder I forgot about this one. Thanks to Nancy Williams for reminding me. I've never done two blogs in one day, but, hey, I promised I'd do this and a promise is a promise.

The Sad song blogfest is hosted by L. Diane Wolfe and you can find a list of all who are participating on her blog. I was asked to list songs that inspire me, move me to tears or break my heart. Some of the participants have listed up to ten songs. Since I am doing this late in the day, I will do four, even though there are hundreds of songs that touch my heart and my soul.

One that has always brought tears to my eyes is "Grandfather's Clock" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akFrzn8SVGc

My father always sang that song, and I can still hear him. I liked his version better than this one. (smile)

Another song that never fails to touch me is "The Rose" sung here by Bette Midler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR6okRuOLc8

When my very talented children and I get together to jam, these are two songs we never fail to include.

My all time favorite hymn is "How Great Thou Art." Sung here by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLLMzr3PFgk

And to finish the list, "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9nPf7w7pDI

You and your kids jam? Now that's fun!

We, do, Alex. My son plays keyboard and guitar. My daughter plays guitar, and we all sing. Not like pros, mind you, but we have fun.

Those are some good songs, and quite different from many of the other lists.

Bette Midler, of course - I like her version of the wind beneath my wings.

The Rose almost made my list! And I had completely forgotten about I Will Always Love You - definitely sad. I do love that song!!

I love your list of songs!

My two favourites from your list are The Rose and How Great Though Art. Both powerful and moving in their own way.

Ron, you can tell I am not much into pop or rock. LOL

Kate, I, too, love Bette's arrangement of "Wind Beneath my Wings." Almost added that one to my list, but I was doing this late yesterday afternoon and my stomach was wondering where supper was. (smile)Had to stop.

Jennie, it has been fun visiting the other blogs and finding songs that almost made our lists.

Denise, I have already told my kids that "How Great Thou Art" must be sung at my funeral

Anna, that's okay, I didn't know many of the songs on people's blogs. It's been fun to be introduced to some new music.

Karen, I do consider myself so blessed to be able to jam with my kids. It was really terrific when my Dad was still alive and able to join us. He is the root of all this musical talent.

Thanks all for stopping by. It was good to meet some new friends and see a few long-time friends. I hate to say "old" friends. LOL

I remember one of my friends in junior high singing The Rose as a solo when I was in chorus. Beautiful song.
